Isaac Guerendo 49ers Injury Update

San Francisco 49ers rookie running back Isaac Guerendo is set to play in the team’s Thursday night matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, despite suffering a sprained foot in the previous game. According to sources, including ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, Guerendo plans to take the field and has insisted that he “feels good”.

The 49ers, who are struggling with injuries, particularly in the running back position, have been relying heavily on Guerendo. With Christian McCaffrey, Jordan Mason, and Elijah Mitchell all sidelined due to injuries, Guerendo assumed the starting role and delivered an impressive performance against the Chicago Bears. He rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns, and added two receptions for 50 yards before exiting the game with his foot injury.

Despite not practicing on Monday and Tuesday, Guerendo was upgraded to limited participation in Wednesday’s walk-through practice. This development is crucial for the 49ers, who are in need of a win to stay in the playoff hunt. The team has also listed defensive end Nick Bosa (left hip, oblique) and linebacker Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) as questionable for the game, while left tackle Trent Williams (left ankle), safety Malik Mustapha (chest, shoulder), and guard Ben Bartch (high ankle sprain) have been ruled out.

If Guerendo is unable to play or suffers a setback, the 49ers will rely on Patrick Taylor Jr., Ke’Shawn Vaughn, and recently added Israel Abanikanda from the practice squad. However, with Guerendo’s current status, it appears he will be the primary running back for the critical NFC West matchup.

Guerendo’s performance has been significant, as he became the fourth player in 49ers history to achieve 100-plus scrimmage yards and at least two touchdowns in his first start, joining notable players like Carlos Hyde, Earl Cooper, and Hugh McElhenny.
