Ishan Kishan Absent From Ranji Match Amid Speculations About His Future

Team India‘s wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has not shown up for the ongoing Ranji match, despite the guidance from Head Coach Rahul Dravid. This has raised questions about his future, as he was also not included in the Indian team against Afghanistan. Instead, Jitendra Sharma and Sanju Samson were chosen over him.

In the ODI series against South Africa, Sanju Samson proved his worth by scoring a century. KL Rahul, on the other hand, showcased brilliant wicketkeeping skills in the Test matches. In the Centurion Test, he scored an impressive century.

With these developments, 25-year-old Ishan Kishan’s future hangs in the balance. Despite Rahul Dravid’s instructions to play domestic cricket to secure a place in the Indian team, Ishan didn’t turn up for the ongoing Ranji match between Jharkhand and Maharashtra in Pune, starting from 12th January. Surprisingly, he was missing from the team’s list as well.

During his break, Ishan participated in the TV show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ and also spent some time in Dubai for a vacation. However, he did not reach out to the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) officials during this period. JSCA Secretary Debashish Chakravarty mentioned that Ishan did not contact them regarding his availability. He stated that as soon as Ishan informs them about his availability, he will be given a place in the playing XI.

As of now, there are speculations about Ishan’s behavior and actions. However, Rahul Dravid had previously indicated that there was no disciplinary action taken against him for the Afghanistan series. Dravid mentioned in a press conference on 10th January that Ishan Kishan was not available for selection against Afghanistan, and when he makes himself available, his name will be considered. Dravid also clarified that Ishan needs to prove his fitness in first-class matches to solidify his selection.

Ishan Kishan’s career has seen him being a part of various tours and tournaments, including the West Indies tour, Asia Cup, World Cup, Australia series, T20 series against Australia, and the South Africa tour.
