Italian Qualifier Cobolli Upsets Auger-Aliassime at Mexican Open
Italian qualifier Flavio Cobolli caused a major upset at the Mexican Open by defeating Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round at the Princess Mundo Imperial Resort in Acapulco.
The match, which took place on Tuesday, saw Flavio Cobolli advance to the second round with a solid performance against the former world No. 6 player.
Ranked 30th in the world, Auger-Aliassime suffered another early exit this season, bringing his win-loss record to 6-6 for the year.
Cobolli, who is currently ranked No. 69, will now face the winner of the match between a Russian player and the No. 5 seed, Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, in the upcoming round.
This victory marks the second top 30 win in Cobolli’s career, solidifying his position in the tournament.
