ITV Unveils New True Crime Drama Starring Anna Maxwell Martin and Shaun Evans
ITV has released the first trailer for its upcoming true crime drama, “Until I Kill You,” featuring actors Anna Maxwell Martin and Shaun Evans. The series dramatizes the harrowing real-life events experienced by Delia Balmer, who survived a near-fatal relationship with the murderer John Sweeney.
The drama follows Delia Balmer’s journey as she navigates the traumatic experiences of being targeted by Sweeney and her interactions with the police and criminal justice system. Based on Balmer’s book, the series uncovers the initial connection between Balmer and Sweeney when they met in a London pub, leading to a relationship that gradually revealed Sweeney’s violent nature.
As dramatized in the series, Sweeney confesses to killing a former girlfriend, triggering a series of violent encounters with Balmer. Despite being arrested, a crucial failure in the judicial system allowed Sweeney to be released on bail, after which he attacked Balmer again. The series follows her battle to regain her life, while Sweeney remains elusive.
Seven years later, Sweeney was arrested for another murder in North London, prompting Balmer to face him in court, where her testimony became vital in the prosecution’s case. ITV describes the series as a portrait of Balmer’s indomitable will to survive despite institutional shortcomings.
Scheduled to air on ITV1 and ITVX over four consecutive nights in November, the drama will be accompanied by a documentary titled “Until I Kill You: The Real Story,” providing viewers with further insights into Balmer’s story. A spokesperson from ITV told the Daily Mail that the series would delve deeply into Balmer’s experiences.
This drama joins the roster of true crime stories previously aired by ITV, continuing the network’s tradition of adapting compelling crime narratives. Specific air dates in the United Kingdom will be confirmed shortly as anticipation for the series grows.
