London, UK — Actor and musician Jack Black has spoken fondly of Radiohead‘s 1995 album, ‘The Bends,’ claiming it took time for him to fully appreciate its brilliance. In a recent interview, Black elaborated on why this record has stood the test of time, in comparison to the immediate gratification of other bands.

Black pointed out that good things often come to those who are willing to invest time and effort. “If you want concept, you go ‘OK Computer,'” he explained, referring to another Radiohead album. “But if you wanna rock—if you want straight-up fucking songs—you go ‘The Bends.'” Initially, Black struggled to grasp the album’s complexity, stating, “The first few listens, I was like, ‘I don’t understand… My brain’s not computing…’ Then it clicked in: ‘Ohhhh, I see! It’s the best band in the history of rock!’”

Black described ‘The Bends’ as dense and experimental yet containing a rock ‘n’ roll purity. He also noted its cinematic quality, which may contribute to its lasting appeal. His admiration for Radiohead isn’t solely personal; fellow actor Brad Pitt has also voiced his appreciation for the band. In a past interview with Rolling Stone, Pitt stated, “What comes out in them I don’t think is anything they could actually articulate… That is their importance.”

The band’s exploration of deeper truths resonates with both actors, prompting Black to express his personal journey with the music. “I worship Thom Yorke,” he confessed, recalling a memorable moment when he saw the Radiohead frontman perform solo at the Bridge School Benefit concert in San Francisco. “It was one of the best things I had ever seen. It was so good,” he said.

Black emphasized that his initial struggle with the music was part of the allure of ‘The Bends.’ He noted how the title itself suggested a patient ascent towards understanding. “We just came up too fast,” Yorke once commented, referring to the challenges faced after their debut album, ‘Pablo Honey.’ Black celebrated that Radiohead took their time with ‘The Bends,’ transforming their slow-burn efforts into a record that continues to resonate with listeners. This dedication to artistry is what keeps fans returning to the album, often uncovering new layers with each listen.
