IOWA CITY, Iowa – Former University of Iowa pitcher Jack Dreyer has been called up to the Los Angeles Dodgers for the Tokyo Series against the Chicago Cubs. This announcement was made on Monday evening when the Dodgers revealed their 26-man roster.

Jack Dreyer, 26, has been recognized for his impressive minor league performance, boasting a 10-2 record and a 2.18 earned run average (ERA) over 124 innings while striking out 164 batters. His solid statistics are a result of consistent hard work and determination, traits that caught the attention of the Dodgers’ front office.

“It’s a great testament to Jack’s confidence in himself and perseverance,” said University of Iowa head coach Rick Heller. “We’re extremely proud of Jack and happy for his mom and dad, Courtney and Steve. They now have two Big Leaguers in the family!”

Dreyer, a native of Johnston, Iowa, played for the Hawkeyes from 2017 to 2020, finishing his collegiate career with an 8-3 record and a 3.41 ERA in 60 2/3 innings. Despite going undrafted, he caught the Dodgers’ attention and was signed as a free agent in 2021.

Throughout his career, Dreyer has excelled primarily as a bullpen arm. Standing six feet two inches tall, he relies on a three-pitch mix that includes a fastball averaging between 93 and 95 miles per hour, a curveball around 80 miles per hour, and a rarely used slider. His effectiveness was evident during spring training, where he registered a 3.00 ERA with 10 strikeouts over six innings.

The Dodgers are kicking off their season against the Cubs in Tokyo, Japan, on March 18-19, 2025. The first game ended with a 4-1 victory for the Dodgers, highlighted by pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s five innings of one-run ball. Though he did not enter the first game, Dreyer is expected to have opportunities to contribute to the bullpen during this two-game series.

The anticipation around Dreyer’s Major League debut reflects not just his individual journey but also the Dodgers’ confidence in his capabilities to help strengthen their pitching staff. Fans eager to witness Dreyer’s first appearance can tune in to the live broadcast on Marquee Sports Network for game two, starting at 5:10 a.m. Central Time.
