Sony Pictures has unveiled a new image from the upcoming film ‘Karate Kid: Legends,’ featuring Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio in a mentor-mentee dynamic. The film, set for release on May 30, 2025, marks the sixth installment in the Karate Kid franchise and unites two generations of martial arts legends.

The photo, shared by Sony, shows Chan reprising his role as Mr. Han from the 2010 reboot, alongside newcomer Ben Wang, who plays Li Fong, a kung fu prodigy. Wang’s character, a young martial artist, is forced to move from Beijing to New York City after a family tragedy. Struggling to adapt, Li enters a karate competition with the help of his mentor, Mr. Han, and Daniel LaRusso, played by Macchio.

Director Jonathan Entwistle, known for his work on ‘I Am Not Okay With This,’ helms the project, which features a screenplay by Rob Lieber. The film also stars Ming-Na Wen, Joshua Jackson, Wyatt Oleff, Sadie Stanley, and Shaunette RenĂ©e Wilson.

In a recent interview, Macchio’s ‘Cobra Kai‘ co-star Jacob Bertrand revealed that Macchio was nervous filming fight scenes with Chan. ‘He said Jackie Chan still moves like he’s 20 years old,’ Bertrand shared. ‘It’s really scary to fight with him.’

The film’s synopsis highlights the merging of kung fu and karate styles, as Li learns to combine the two disciplines under the guidance of Mr. Han and LaRusso. The story also hints at a deeper connection between Mr. Han and the late Mr. Miyagi, a beloved character from the original films.

‘Karate Kid: Legends’ continues the franchise’s tradition of exploring Mr. Miyagi’s legacy, a trend that began with the Netflix series ‘Cobra Kai.’ The film is expected to delve into the history of the Miyagi and Han families, offering fans new insights into the iconic mentor’s past.

With a global casting search that attracted 10,000 submissions, Wang’s casting as Li Fong underscores the film’s commitment to fresh talent. The ensemble cast and the blending of old and new characters promise to deliver a thrilling addition to the Karate Kid saga.
