Wales’ Jak Jones mounted an impressive comeback in the World Snooker Championship semi-final against Stuart Bingham at the historic Crucible.
After initially falling behind 3-0, Jones showcased resilience to level the score at 4-4 by the close of the evening session.
In the parallel semi-final, Kyren Wilson and David Gilbert engaged in a tight battle, with Wilson managing to equalize the score against Gilbert after trailing 3-2 and 4-3 in the first session at the iconic Crucible venue.
Jones, hailing from Cwmbran, encountered a challenging start marked by a few lapses in his play, allowing Bingham to take an early lead with a strong first frame and a break of 94 in the second.
Despite initial setbacks, Jones capitalized on Bingham’s mistakes and regained his composure following the interval, winning the first two frames after the break.
However, Bingham responded emphatically with a clinical break in the seventh frame to regain the lead. The match culminated in a thrilling stalemate as both players traded opportunities before Jones secured the final frame of the night, leaving the tie finely poised.
Earlier in the session, Wilson made a strong start with a break of 73 but faced challenges as errors crept into the play for both players.
Gilbert missed a routine black, which allowed Wilson to establish a commanding lead. Despite being unsettled by crowd disturbances, Gilbert bounced back with a century break in the fourth frame, levelling the score at 2-2.
Gilbert continued to dominate with breaks of 91 and stylish snooker. However, a lapse in the final frame of the session enabled Wilson to compile an impressive break of 88, setting the stage for a captivating follow-up when play resumes today.
The best-of-33 frames action resumes today, promising an exhilarating continuation of the semi-finals at the historic Crucible venue.
