Jamal Roberts American Idol Winner 2023

Meridian, MississippiJamal Roberts, a 27-year-old physical education teacher, was crowned the winner of Season 23 of “American Idol” on Sunday. In a heartfelt message on social media, Roberts expressed his disbelief and gratitude for the achievement.

“From my first step on that stage to this unbelievable moment, I never dreamed a kid from my hometown would one day be called American Idol,” he wrote. He emphasized the significance of his journey, stating, “This journey has been bigger than me, and I’m so grateful for every person who believed in me when I was just chasing a dream.”

As a father of three, Roberts also hopes his win inspires his children. “Most of all, I hope my girls see this and know that with faith, hard work, and heart, anything is possible,” he added. He dedicated his win to his city, family, and all those striving for their dreams. “This is our victory,” he said.

Roberts showcased his talent by performing Tom Odell‘s “Heal” during the grand finale, securing his victory among 24 contestants. The runner-up was 18-year-old John Foster from Addis, Louisiana, with Denton, Texas native Breanna Nix finishing in third place.

The finale featured a special performance by pop star Jessica Simpson, who made a return to the stage after more than a decade. Singing her new song “Blame Me” from her album “Nashville Canyon: Part 1,” Simpson shared her emotional connection with her daughter Maxwell, saying, “My 13-year-old has never seen me singing on TV, and her pure pride, love, and support is the very reason why I AM BACK.” Simpson expressed her love for her daughter in an Instagram post, stating, “I am strong because of you, my sweet daughter.”

As Roberts prepares for the next chapter, he reflected, “Now, I get to make music with the best in the world and share my story. But this isn’t the end… it’s just the beginning. From the bottom of my heart…. THANK YOU! None of this happens without y’all. 💙”
