James Harden Scoring During Clippers Pistons Game

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — James Harden delivered a stunning performance on March 5, 2025, scoring 50 points to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to a 123-115 victory over the Detroit Pistons at the Intuit Dome. This game marked Harden’s first 50-point outing as a member of the Clippers and the 24th of his illustrious career, bringing him within one of Kobe Bryant for third-most in NBA history.

The 35-year-old guard’s electrifying performance came after a tough stretch for the Clippers, who had lost six of their last seven games, including a heartbreaking defeat to the Phoenix Suns just a night earlier. With key players like Norman Powell sidelined and Kawhi Leonard resting, Harden rose to the occasion. He began the game with authority, scoring 23 points in the first quarter alone.

Harden’s efficiency was remarkable, finishing with a shooting line of 14-of-24 from the field, six of 13 from three-point range, and 16 for 20 at the free-throw line. His ability to maintain intensity on the second night of back-to-back games further solidified his prowess in this demanding league.

“To see him come out and score 50 on a back-to-back at the age of 35 just says a lot about him,” said Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue. “We needed every bit of it.”

The game gained additional prominence with the attendance of former President Barack Obama, who was spotted sitting next to Clippers owner Steve Ballmer. After the game, Harden expressed his excitement at Obama’s presence, stating, “I wanted my picture with the President after the game, but he left. I guess he wanted to beat traffic.” He added jokingly, “We’ve got a pretty cool relationship.”

Despite this celebratory moment, Harden also took the time to reflect on the tragic passing of Congressman Sylvester Turner, a close friend. “He was a great human being,” Harden said solemnly. “We’d done a lot of great things for the community. It’s sad.”

This victory improved the Clippers’ record to 33-29, providing much-needed momentum as they push towards securing a playoff spot. Harden’s performance serves as a reminder of his scoring ability and leadership, crucial for the Clippers’ aspirations this season.

Harden’s achievement of 50 points brings him closer to the elite ranks of NBA scorers, only behind Wilt Chamberlain (118), Michael Jordan (31), and Kobe Bryant (25) on the all-time list. He currently joins Bob McAdoo and Lou Williams as the only Clippers to record multiple 40-point games in a season.

“I can do it, you know,” Harden asserted confidently post-game, emphasizing his experience and readiness to lead the Clippers in their quest for success. “It’s not my first time.”
