Jannik Sinner Returns to Rome Masters Against Jesper de Jong

Rome, Italy – Jannik Sinner is set to compete at the Rome Masters on Monday, facing Jesper de Jong in the third round. This marks Sinner’s return to the competition after a three-month suspension, and he comes back as a two-time Grand Slam champion.
The match against De Jong will be their second meeting, the first being at the 2024 Australian Open, where Sinner won decisively with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 6-2. Sinner displayed impressive form in recent matches, indicating that De Jong may face an uphill battle.
De Jong, ranked 93rd in the world, earned his place in the main draw as a lucky loser, achieving victories over Alexander Shevchenko and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. However, prior to this tournament, De Jong had never defeated anyone ranked higher than 34th, making his chances against Sinner unlikely.
In another match, Jakub Mensik will meet Fabian Marozsan, two up-and-coming players who have displayed strong performances this year. Marozsan, ranked 61st, had a breakthrough performance in Rome last year and is looking to build on his clay-court record. Mensik, at just 19 years old, has already reached the quarterfinals in several Masters 1000 events.
The competition is heating up, with other notable matches scheduled as well. Carlos Alcaraz, ranked third, will face Laslo Djere, aiming to continue his successful run on clay this season. Djere comes to this match with a strong record, having recently defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Alex Michelsen.
As anticipation builds for these matches, fans are eager to see how Sinner performs in front of his home crowd, and whether he can maintain his winning streak against a determined De Jong.
