Jarren Duran 2024 Boston Red Sox

Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran has emerged as one of the finalists for the prestigious 2024 Hank Aaron Award, following a remarkable season. The 28-year-old is among 10 American League (A.L.) contenders vying for the accolade, which recognizes the most outstanding offensive performer in each league.

Duran’s nomination comes after he achieved several notable milestones during the season. He made a career-high of 160 appearances and recorded 75 RBIs, highlighting his consistent performance on the field. Duran made history by becoming Major League Baseball‘s first player to tally 40 doubles (48), 30 stolen bases (34), 20 home runs (21), and 10 triples (14) in a single season. Moreover, his defensive prowess was demonstrated through a .984 fielding percentage across 374 defensive chances.

In the All-Star Game held at Globe Life Field, Duran, alongside teammate Tanner Houck, represented the Red Sox. His standout performance included hitting a go-ahead home run in the fifth inning, securing Boston’s first All-Star MVP since J.D. Drew in 2008.

The Red Sox have integrated several young players into their squad, with Duran serving as a role model due to his exemplary play. His speed on the base paths and ability to convert singles into extra bases have significantly impacted games throughout the season. His efforts have positioned him as a key leader within the team.

In praising Duran, his manager remarked, “When we talk about consistency, posting and playing the game right, this guy is amazing. We got kids here and I bet if you want your kids to become big leaguers and play the game the right way, you’re going to tell them to take a look at Jarren Duran, an All-Star!”

Competing for the Hank Aaron Award from the American League are New York Yankees outfielders Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, Baltimore Orioles players Gunnar Henderson and Anthony Santander, Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez, Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez, and Oakland Athletics outfielder Brent Rooker. The Red Sox last saw a player win the award in 2018 with J.D. Martinez.
