Jarren Duran Signs One-Year Contract with Boston Red Sox
BOSTON, MA — Jarren Duran is set to remain with the Boston Red Sox after agreeing to a one-year contract worth $7.7 million for the 2026 season. The announcement was made on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025.
This deal, which avoids an arbitration hearing, also includes $75,000 in performance bonuses for Duran. He can earn $25,000 for reaching 450, 500, and 550 plate appearances in the upcoming season.
The Red Sox faced a deadline on a $8 million club option for Duran, which they ultimately declined. Instead, he received a $100,000 buyout and agreed to the new contract, allowing the team to potentially save money.
Duran, 29, has been under team control through 2028. He had a solid performance in 2025, batting .256 with 16 home runs in 157 games, down from a strong .285 average and .834 OPS in 2024. Trade rumors surrounding Duran have circulated due to the Red Sox’s deep outfield roster.
The club intends to reassess their roster this winter, with chief baseball officer Craig Breslow evaluating all options, including moving players for pitching help. This decision on Duran’s contract simplifies negotiations moving forward.
Under the terms of his new deal, Duran will still remain arbitration-eligible and may see further raises in future seasons if he maintains his performance levels. Duran’s season last year earned him a respectable 4.6 fWAR, though he finished eighth in the American League MVP voting in 2024.
Overall, this contract ensures that regardless of trade discussions, Duran has clarity about his compensation for the 2026 season.
