Jay Leno 2023 Interview

Jay Leno, the former host of “The Tonight Show,” recently provided insights into his personal life and professional endeavors. Speaking to Fox News Digital, Leno offered an update on his wife, Mavis Leno, who is suffering from advanced dementia. Despite the challenges that come with her condition, Leno maintains a positive attitude. “It’s OK. You know, it’s life. Everybody goes through it,” he remarked, noting that he prepares dinner for Mavis every night.

In 2022, Leno sustained third-degree burns on his face due to an accident in his garage while working on one of his cars. When asked about his willingness to return to the garage post-accident, he responded with a firm “No” hesitation. Leno humorously minimized the incident, stating, “I got a face full of gas…people get burned every day.” He recuperated quickly, missing just two days of work, although his recovery required several skin grafts.

Following this incident, Leno encountered another mishap just two months later. He broke his leg in a motorcycle accident. Reflecting on the incident, Leno joked about needing a “new face” from his doctor, light-heartedly saying, “I used to look like Abe Lincoln.”

Despite personal adversities, Leno remains dedicated to his passion project, “Jay Leno’s Garage.” Discussing the essence of the show, Leno shared, “We do a new video every week, anything that rolls, explodes, makes noise.” The comedian emphasized the importance of evolving content while acknowledging the reluctance some enthusiasts have towards change. He cited the Big Boy Steam train episode as an example of content that initially might seem contentious but was ultimately well-received.

Leno’s exploration of automobiles includes collaborations with notable personalities such as Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias and Jeff Dunham. He expressed delight at finding out unexpected celebrities, like Jon Hamm, have a keen interest in cars. “You’d be surprised how many people really like automobiles,” he stated.

The car enthusiast also highlighted advancements in vehicle safety over the years, remembering a severe collision he witnessed where both drivers emerged unscathed—something he deemed “amazing.” “Jay Leno’s Garage” continues to air, allowing Leno to share his lifelong passion for cars with a global audience.
