Jensen Ackles is set to make an appearance on the CBS drama ‘Tracker‘, reuniting with Justin Hartley, who stars as the show’s protagonist, Colter Shaw. Ackles will feature in the second episode of the series’ second season, airing on Sunday, October 20 at 8:30 p.m. ET.

The pair first appeared together in the previous season, with Hartley playing Colter Shaw and Ackles guest-starring as his estranged brother, Russell Shaw. In a statement to PEOPLE, Hartley expressed excitement about working with Ackles, whom he has known for many years. “Jensen is the perfect guy to play Russell. It’s such a well fleshed out character,” said Hartley.

The upcoming episode, titled “Ontological Shock”, sees Colter disappear while on a mission to find a missing father. Reenie, portrayed by Fiona Rene, seeks Russell’s help in the desperate search.

During the Summer Television Critics Association 2024 Press Tour, Hartley confirmed Ackles’ return, stating, “We got him, he’s coming back. We’re having fun with that. It’s a great story.” The show’s showrunner, Elwood Reid, assured fans that Ackles’ character would appear in multiple episodes.

‘Tracker’ has been a notable success for CBS, with the network having renewed it for a second season shortly after its debut. According to Nielsen, it has become the most-watched show on the network since ‘FBI‘s premiere in 2018.

Ackles’ character adds to the ongoing storyline concerning Colter’s complicated family dynamics, which were explored in the show’s first season. The narrative involves secrets about their father and their childhood, which continue to unfold in the upcoming episodes.
