Jets Narrow GM Search, Eye Bengals’ Trey Brown for Key Role
CINCINNATI — The New York Jets are intensifying their search for a new general manager, with Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown emerging as a top candidate. According to CBS Sports‘ Jonathan Jones, the Jets have requested a second interview with Brown, who has been a key figure in Cincinnati’s front office since 2021.
The Jets are also considering Denver Broncos assistant general manager Darren Mougey, who will have a second interview, and have already met with Commanders assistant GM Lance Newmark. Brown, who serves as the right-hand man to Bengals’ director of player personnel Duke Tobin, has garnered significant attention for GM roles in recent years.
Brown’s potential pairing with newly hired Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, who previously worked with Newmark in Detroit, had been speculated. However, sources indicate the Jets are exploring multiple options and may not pursue a package deal.
The Jets’ front office overhaul comes after a disappointing season, with the team aiming to rebuild its roster and infrastructure. Brown’s experience in player evaluation and scouting has made him a standout candidate in a competitive hiring process.
“Trey has been instrumental in our success here in Cincinnati,” said a Bengals insider. “His eye for talent and understanding of team dynamics make him a strong fit for any organization.”
The Jets’ decision is expected in the coming weeks as they finalize interviews and weigh their options.
