Joe Mixon’s Status Questionable for Week 4 with the Houston Texans
Joe Mixon, the running back for the Houston Texans, remains questionable for the team’s Week 4 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, scheduled at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday at NRG Stadium. Mixon’s recent recovery from an ankle injury continues to cast doubt on his participation.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Mixon is described as facing “an uphill climb to play,” yet he still holds out hope, awaiting how his ankle responds to pre-game workouts. The injury, sustained in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears, sidelined him in the previous game, leading the Texans to rely on alternative running threats.
Mixon’s activity in practice offers some optimism. On Friday, he participated on a limited basis for the first time since his injury, marking a significant milestone in his recovery. Despite this progress, it remains uncertain whether he will be cleared to play against the Jaguars.
In Mixon’s absence, Cam Akers is expected to take over the running game for the Texans, especially as his backup, Dameon Pierce, is also unavailable. Last week, Akers managed only nine carries for 21 yards but contributed a receiving touchdown. The Texans’ offensive line faces a Jaguars defense that has allowed 109.3 rushing yards per game and conceded four rushing touchdowns in just three games, potentially providing an advantageous situation for Akers.
Fantasy football managers with Mixon on their lineup are advised to monitor his status closely. Should Mixon manage to play, it could significantly impact Akers’ fantasy value, possibly reducing his role and limiting his upside to a flex play. Conversely, if Mixon remains inactive, Akers could be a suitable RB2 option.
The Texans have faced significant challenges in their running game thus far, and the matchup against the Jaguars could be pivotal in shaping their offense as they progress through the season under offensive coordinator Bobby Slowick.
