John Cena and Randy Orton Set for Iconic Showdown at Backlash 2025

ST. LOUIS, Missouri — WWE legends John Cena and Randy Orton are preparing for their highly anticipated match at Backlash 2025 on May 6. This encounter marks the 22nd clash between the two rivals, who have a storied history in the wrestling world.
The stakes are high as Cena, the current Undisputed WWE Champion, defends his title against Orton, who aims to draw closer to Cena’s record of 17 World Title reigns. Cena recently stunned fans by defeating Cody Rhodes to secure his 17th title at WrestleMania 41.
On the last episode of SmackDown, Orton solidified his challenge by delivering a surprise RKO to Cena. The two have battled 21 times before, with Cena holding a 13-7-1 record in their encounters. The last time they faced off was in 2017, where Cena came out on top. Currently, he has defeated Orton in their last four matchups.
Both superstars have a collective total of 31 World Titles, making this face-off potentially the most title-laden singles match in WWE history. Orton holds 14 World Titles, positioning him as a formidable challenger.
In addition to the main event, WWE Backlash will also feature a Women’s Intercontinental Championship match between Lyra Valkyria and Becky Lynch. Tensions between the two escalated after Lynch reportedly attacked Valkyria’s partner, Bayley, leading to their championship bout.
Gunther will face commentator Pat McAfee in another notable match. McAfee, returning to the ring for the first time since WrestleMania 39, challenged Gunther after an altercation during a recent broadcast.
Jacob Fatu will defend his United States Championship in a Fatal 4-Way match against LA Knight, Damian Priest, and Drew McIntyre. Fatu has displayed dominant performance since winning the title and looks to retain it against fierce competition.
As the WWE world watches closely, this Saturday promises to be an electrifying event, with Cena vs. Orton as the highlight of an action-packed card.
