Johnny Depp Red Carpet Controversy

HANOI, Vietnam — A recent story claiming Johnny Depp dismissed conservative commentator Charlie Kirk with the remark, “I don’t know who that is,” is not true. The article, which has garnered attention online, originates from a Facebook page and site based in Vietnam.

The story surfaced on October 8, 2025, under the headline “THE MAN WHO REFUSED TO SHOUT: HOW JOHNNY DEPP TURNED A MOMENT OF HUMILIATION INTO A MASTERCLASS IN GRACE, HUMANITY, AND SILENCE THAT SPOKE LOUDER THAN WORDS.” The piece describes a fictional encounter on a red carpet where a journalist questioned Depp about Kirk.

Depp allegedly responded, “I don’t know who that is,” prompting an outpouring of criticism online. Critics accused him of being out of touch with American culture. Despite the viral backlash, no credible news outlets reported on Depp’s supposed comments.

The article claimed that Depp further stated, “I don’t follow men who shout for a living. I follow stories, music, and the kind of humanity that actually heals people.” However, no records exist of these statements accompanying evidence from reputable sources.

Several elements of the story raised red flags, including the lack of supporting articles mentioning both Depp and Kirk together. Additionally, given that Kirk passed away on September 10, 2025, the claim that Depp’s comments were still circulating months later makes little sense.

Concern has grown over misinformation stemming from pages like “The Funny Pages,” which is believed to be run by individuals in Vietnam. Fact-checking organization Lead Stories has not validated any part of the narrative.

As discussions about authenticity on social media escalate, experts like Maarten Schenk of Lead Stories emphasize the importance of discerning fact from fiction in the online landscape.
