Tottenham Johnson Manchester United Match

LONDON, EnglandTottenham Hotspur’s Brennan Johnson downplayed their previous victories over Manchester United but expressed confidence in developing a fresh strategy for their next encounter.

Tottenham defeated United three times this season, including a decisive 3-0 victory at Old Trafford in September that significantly affected United’s management situation. Since taking over from Erik ten Hag in November, Tottenham’s manager, Rúben Amorim, has shown resilience despite a close 4-3 loss in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in December. The last match in February ended with a narrow 1-0 favoring Tottenham.

“I think we know, going into the final, we can’t rely on the fact that we’ve beaten them a few times this season,” said Johnson during a press event. “It’s about coming up with a plan because each victory had different factors contributing to it.”

Johnson emphasized the importance of preparation, stating, “I feel like we’ve done good work preparing for Man United, and now it’s about defining how we want to win and what we need to do to stop them.”

Moreover, Johnson, whose father David was a former player for Manchester United, reflected on family loyalties. “He obviously liked them growing up but definitely not now! He’s on Spurs’ side,” Johnson joked.

Johnson has had a breakout season, scoring 17 goals, many of which are credited to his positioning and understanding of the game. “It’s a demand that the manager puts on us to be in the right spots,” he explained, noting the significance of being at the back post for potential finishes.

His recent contributions helped Spurs secure a 5-1 semi-final aggregate victory over Bodo/Glimt, positioning them favorably for upcoming European competitions. “When times have been tough, winning in Europe brings the squad together,” he concluded. “Unbelievable victories foster real togetherness and that makes us stronger.”
