Justin Sylvester Reveals New Relationship on TODAY Show

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Justin Sylvester made headlines recently when he shared news of his new relationship while co-hosting “TODAY with Jenna & Friends” on Feb. 18.
It all began during a conversation about Selena Gomez‘s latest single, “Scared of Loving You,” where Gomez recounts saying “I love you first” to her partner. Sylvester, curious about Jenna Bush Hager‘s experience with her husband, asked, “Did you say ‘I love you’ first?” The exchange led to a light-hearted discussion about the pressures and surprises of romantic declarations.
Hager confessed that she didn’t say those words first to her husband, Henry Hager, recalling with laughter, “I had a few drinks when he first said ‘I love you.’ I said, ‘Me too! Let’s get married.’” Sylvester, on the other hand, detailed an awkward moment where he mistakenly confessed his feelings to a romantic interest while simultaneously texting a friend.
“I hung up the phone after he gasped, and then he called back. I was like, ‘I can’t do this. You cannot say anything,’” Sylvester recounted. Fortunately for him, the romantic interest reciprocated his feelings, leading to a significant moment in their budding relationship.
“He was like, ‘I love you too and I was going to tell you that I love you as well.’ And it was a really big moment,” Sylvester said, to which Hager chimed in, asking about the current status of the relationship, to which Sylvester confirmed, “We are still together.”
The unexpected revelation left Hager astounded. “Justin! What is happening here?” she exclaimed.
Amidst the laughter, Sylvester humorously juggled his family dynamics, stating, “In Louisiana right now, my mother has just dropped her Folgers all over my sister and her child.” He playfully continued by referencing Hager’s mother, Laura Bush, who is a fan of the show.
As the conversation unfolded, Hager pressed Sylvester on why he had chosen this public platform to announce his relationship. Sylvester admitted he was unsure about discussing it on air, but he had already texted his boyfriend, knowing he had time for a heads-up before the broadcast aired in Los Angeles.
“How does your boyfriend feel that you’ve just launched in a public place? This is a public launch,” Hager quipped. Sylvester replied, “Well, thank God he gets it in L.A., so I have three hours to tell him.”
As the dialogue touched on the fleeting nature of relationships, Sylvester playfully remarked, “I know you guys at home are thinking, ‘Six months?’ But in gay years, that’s like six years. So we are deep. I have two kids at this point.” Hager responded with a supportive, “I’m proud of you.”
Overall, the segment not only highlighted personal stories of love but also brought humor and warmth to the topic of relationships.
