Kansas City, MO — The Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship resumed Friday, March 14, with quarterfinal matches at the T-Mobile Center. With 16 teams vying for the coveted title, the tournament is heating up as the championship approaches.

Tonight’s action features the Texas Tech Red Raiders facing the Baylor Bears at 7 p.m. ET, showcasing some of the season’s most competitive play. The Bears, with a record of 24-7 and finishing 15-5 in the Big 12, are a formidable competitor against the Red Raiders, who hold a 19-13 record and a 10-10 season finish.

The tournament has been electrifying since it began on March 11, culminating in the championship match set for Saturday, March 15.

Elijah Hawkins from Texas Tech expressed excitement about the tournament. “We understand the importance of this game, and we’re ready to give our all on the court,” said Hawkins prior to the game.

On Thursday, March 13, the quarterfinals continued witnessing extraordinary plays and exciting matchups. At halftime of the Baylor vs. Texas Tech game, the score stood at 27-40, signaling the Bears’ strong offensive strategy. Baylor’s head coach, Scott Drew, commented during a timeout, “We need to maintain our defensive pressure and limit their three-point shots to secure this win.”

The standout players thus far include Darrion Williams, who made key contributions with several crucial three-point shots, and VJ Edgecombe, who demonstrated excellent rebounding skills.

The game’s statistics showcase a significant field goal percentage with Baylor shooting 52.6%, while Texas Tech struggled at 25%. This disparity may prove critical as the teams both look to secure momentum moving into the second half.

The stakes are high this year as Iowa State, the defending champion, competes against strong contenders like Houston, who are this year’s top seed. The Cyclones hope to keep their title, aiming for a repeat performance from their 2024 victory against Houston.

As the tournament progresses, both players and fans are eager to see who will emerge victorious in this fiercely competitive league. The Sweet 16 games will follow, keeping the momentum alive as teams fight for a chance at the final four.
