Kari Lake Nominated as Trump’s Pick for Director of Voice of America
President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Kari Lake, a former Arizona broadcaster and unsuccessful candidate for public office, to serve as the next Director of the Voice of America (VOA). The announcement was made in a release on Wednesday night, where Trump expressed his confidence in Lake’s ability to uphold American values of freedom and liberty through the broadcaster.
Lake, known for her long career in Arizona broadcasting, ran for public office in both 2022 and 2024 but did not secure a position. Despite this, Trump has chosen her to lead VOA, a state-funded U.S. government broadcaster that provides news, information, and cultural programming in over 40 languages through various media platforms including the internet, mobile, social media, radio, and television.
Trump emphasized that Lake will work closely with the next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, who will be announced soon, to ensure that the content broadcast by VOA is fair and accurate, contrasting it with what he described as “lies spread by the Fake News Media.”
