Karol G Reveals Heartbreak in Netflix Documentary Ahead of Global Premiere

Medellín, Colombia – Karol G‘s much-anticipated Netflix documentary is set to premiere globally on May 8, creating a buzz that temporarily halted the bustling city on April 30. The film’s exclusive screening at the Museum of Modern Art gathered close fans and associates while thousands cheered outside for the reggaeton star’s first public appearance in 2025.
After a successful world tour, Karol G, whose real name is Carolina Giraldo Navarro, returned to the spotlight with palpable excitement. The documentary dives into her tumultuous breakup with fellow reggaeton artist Anuel, which unfolded under the glare of public scrutiny.
The couple’s love story began in 2018 while working on their hit track, “Culpables.” Their romance blossomed, and the pair got engaged in April 2019. However, by 2021, their relationship faced complications that led to their separation.
In the documentary, Karol G reflected on the emotional aftermath of the relationship. “In my last relationship, getting out was toxic. I’d wake up feeling like I was going to die,” she explained. “I felt like I had no value, like I couldn’t see my success, couldn’t see my greatness. It was a nightmare. It was hell.” This emotional turmoil became the catalyst for her music.
After the breakup, the singer began dating fellow Colombian artist Feid, which fueled media speculation and rivalry with Anuel. Anuel released a diss track titled “Mejor Que Yo” in 2023, pointing at Karol G and her new relationship.
In a post, Anuel declared, “This is the last post where I talk about this subject,” as he distanced himself from the narrative surrounding their past. During his tour, he hinted at their shared history, which only added to the drama.
Despite the public blowback, Karol G transformed her experiences into empowering music, eventually leading to her 2023 album, “Mañana Será Bonito,” which won a Grammy and marked a high point in her career.
In her candid interviews, she expressed the deep pain from her experiences but also highlighted how her songs resonate with those struggling to find their voice. “Through my songs, I got to speak for a lot of people who don’t know how to express what they’re feeling,” she said.
As both artists move forward, Karol G’s narrative signifies overcoming adversity and refocusing her career, while Anuel continues to grapple with the public perception of his past relationship. With the documentary set for release soon, both artists have captivated audiences and sparked discussions about love, heartbreak, and resilience in the limelight.
