Kate Hudson Tackles Family Drama in Netflix’s ‘Running Point’
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Kate Hudson stars as Isla Gordon, the newly appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves basketball franchise, in Netflix‘s upcoming series “Running Point.” The show, set to premiere on Feb. 27, follows Isla as she navigates the pressures of taking over after her brother’s scandal forces his resignation.
In the first trailer released Thursday, Isla faces skepticism from her family, the board, and the sports community. “I work in a family business for the greatest basketball franchise in the history of the game, the Los Angeles Waves. And this is the story of the fucked-up family that runs it,” Hudson’s character says in the teaser.
The series, described as a “bold twist on the underdog comedy,” features a star-studded cast including Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Jay Ellis, and Max Greenfield. The show is executive produced by Hudson, Howard Klein of 3 Arts Entertainment, Jeanie Buss, and Linda Rambis.
David Stassen serves as showrunner, with Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and Stassen writing and executive producing. The series is produced by Kaling International in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling has an overall deal.
“Running Point” marks Kaling’s latest project following the success of Max’s “The Sex Lives of College Girls.” The 10-episode series will be available for streaming on Netflix starting Feb. 27.
