Kenny Albert New York Rangers Announcer

SUNRISE, Fla. — Kenny Albert has been named the next play-by-play announcer for the New York Rangers, succeeding the iconic Sam Rosen, who is set to retire at the end of this NHL season. The announcement, confirmed by sources, marks the beginning of a new era for Rangers fans as the franchise bids farewell to one of its most beloved voices after 40 years.

Rosen’s final season has been a celebratory farewell tour, full of nostalgia and memorable moments as the team navigates this year’s ups and downs. He has been a fixture of Rangers broadcasts since 1984, calling over 3,000 games, and is known for his iconic catchphrase, ‘It’s a power play goal!’

As Rosen steps down, Kenny Albert, who has been with the Rangers’ radio broadcasts since the 1995-96 season, will take over the television duties on MSG Network. Albert’s extensive experience includes serving as the lead voice for NHL games on TNT Sports and calling NFL games for FOX Sports.

“I wouldn’t be doing it if it wasn’t for him,” Albert said of Rosen’s influence on his career. Albert, a New York native with deep ties to the franchise, started his journey in hockey broadcasting at just 14, working as an official statistician for Rangers radio broadcasts.

Alongside Albert will be Joe Micheletti, who will return as the color commentator, ensuring a sense of continuity for fans transitioning to a new era of Rangers hockey. Alex Faust, who has filled in on Rangers broadcasts in the past, will serve as Albert’s backup when he is unavailable.

Faust brings his own experience as the voice of the Los Angeles Kings and currently contributes to Apple TV‘s MLB coverage. His familiarity with the organization should help ease the transition as the Rangers prepare for the post-Rosen era.

Sam Rosen’s retirement comes after a storied career in which he received the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award in 2016, marking his contributions to hockey broadcasting. He is also a member of both the Hockey Hall of Fame and the New York State Hockey Hall of Fame.

This season has become a farewell for Rosen, as he previously teamed up with former Rangers goalie and long-time broadcast partner John Davidson to call a recent game against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Rangers’ upcoming match against the Tampa Bay Lightning on April 20 will mark Rosen’s final game behind the mic, closing a remarkable chapter in NHL broadcasting history.
