Kevin Durant Trade Rumors Heat Up Ahead of NBA Offseason

SAN ANTONIO — Kevin Durant is once again at the center of NBA trade discussions as rumors swirl that the Phoenix Suns forward may have mutual interest in a deal with the San Antonio Spurs this offseason. This comes after speculation following the NBA trade deadline in February 2025.
On social media, fans criticized Durant for potentially joining a fifth NBA franchise, questioning his legacy as a top player. One user wrote, ‘Can’t be a top-15 player all-time if you’ve played for five franchises. Winners build dynasties.’
Durant responded on X, formerly Twitter, encouraging fans to create their own narratives about the NBA. ‘Make your own rules and curate this NBA fantasy world the way you want,’ he stated.
Durant’s decisions to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder in favor of the Golden State Warriors in 2016, where he won two championships, and later stints with the Brooklyn Nets and Phoenix Suns have raised eyebrows. Despite mixed results in these previous situations, the possibility of him joining the Spurs has gained traction.
If Durant were to join San Antonio, he would team up with rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama, potentially making the Spurs serious contenders in the Western Conference. Wembanyama, who suffered an injury this past season, is expected to be ready for training camp.
ESPN’s Shams Charania, speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, highlighted the Spurs’ desire for a wing player that could enhance their roster. ‘They have a ton of assets,’ he noted, referring to the Spurs’ No. 2 overall draft pick and flexible contracts.
Charania also mentioned that the Spurs were actively seeking a player to elevate their competitiveness. Durant averaged 26.6 points per game last season, showcasing that he still holds elite scoring power at 36 years old.
As rumors continue to circulate, the Spurs aim to bolster their roster with big names like Durant or fellow star Giannis Antetokounmpo. Whether any trade materializes, fans and teams alike will keep a close watch as the offseason approaches.
