Khabib Nurmagomedov Removed from Flight After Exit Row Dispute
UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov was removed from a flight in the United States on Jan. 12, 2025, following a dispute with a flight attendant over seating in the emergency exit row. The undefeated former lightweight champion, who was reportedly traveling to Los Angeles to support his teammates, was asked to move seats after a misunderstanding about his ability to assist in an emergency situation.
According to eyewitness accounts and video footage, Nurmagomedov was seated in the emergency exit row when a flight attendant approached him to confirm whether he could assist passengers in case of an emergency. The 29-0 MMA legend appeared confused by the question, leading to a brief argument. The attendant insisted he either move to another seat or leave the plane, stating, “We cannot allow you to sit in the exit row, or you’re going to have to get off this plane.”
Nurmagomedov expressed frustration, calling the situation “unfair” and pointing out that he had confirmed his English proficiency during check-in. “When I was in check-in, they asked me do I know English… and I say yes. Then why you guys do this?” he said. The flight attendant escalated the matter to a supervisor, who ultimately escorted Nurmagomedov off the aircraft.
This incident is not the first time Nurmagomedov has faced challenges while traveling in the U.S. In 2017, his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, encountered visa issues that prevented him from attending his son’s fights. Khabib later revealed that his father had struggled to obtain a U.S. visa for years, which limited his ability to support his son during his UFC career.
Nurmagomedov, who retired from MMA in 2020 with a perfect 29-0 record, is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters in the sport’s history. He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2022. Fans on social media have debated whether the flight crew acted appropriately or if Nurmagomedov was unfairly treated. One user commented, “He handled the situation well. He should sue them,” while another added, “One of the most respectful humans, bro don’t deserve that.”
