Kīlauea Eruption Sees Lava Fountains in Latest Episode

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, Hawaii – Episode 20 of the ongoing eruption at Halemaʻumaʻu in Kīlauea was active for four and a half hours on the evening of May 6, 2025. During this period, lava fountains reached impressive heights of approximately 500 feet, or 150 meters.
On May 7, USGS geologists conducted a visit to the eruption site, taking note of the sudden pause following episode 20. The significant shift in summit tilt from deflation to inflation indicates that another eruptive episode may occur soon.
The current pause comes after the impressive display of lava fountains, which are a hallmark of Kīlauea’s eruptive style. Observers noted the vibrant activity during the eruption as both a scientific phenomenon and a natural spectacle.
The Halemaʻumaʻu eruption has drawn attention from volcanologists and the public alike, with many closely monitoring the developments. The data collected by geologists during their visits will help understand the volcano’s behavior and predict future activities.
As the situation evolves, experts will continue to analyze the volcano’s movements. Further updates are expected as Kīlauea remains an active site of study and fascination.
