NEW YORK, NY — The New York Knicks may welcome back former player Charles Oakley as a celebrated alumnus, but only if he agrees to drop his ongoing lawsuit against team owner James Dolan and Madison Square Garden.

According to reports, it remains uncertain whether Oakley will accept this potential offer. The dispute between Oakley and the Knicks dates back to 2017 when he was ejected from a game at Madison Square Garden following a physical altercation with security staff, leading to his arrest.

In 2018, Oakley was cleared of misdemeanor assault charges. He subsequently filed a lawsuit alleging assault and battery against Dolan and the security personnel of Madison Square Garden.

After the incident, Dolan banned Oakley from the arena; however, this ban was not termed a “lifetime ban” and has since been lifted. Oakley is now permitted to attend Knicks games, provided he buys a ticket, but true recognition as a celebrated member of the franchise involves additional privileges.

If Oakley agrees to the terms, he would gain benefits such as sitting courtside and receiving invitations to team events. Oakley played for the Knicks from 1988 to 1998, during which he averaged 10.4 points and 10.0 rebounds, earning All-NBA Defensive honors.
