Knicks Face Offensive Challenges After Celtics’ Strong Start

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The New York Knicks are struggling in their Eastern Conference series against the Boston Celtics after a rough start in Game 4, which resulted in a 20-point deficit.
With the Celtics prioritizing defense against Jalen Brunson, the Knicks’ offense has suffered. Their starting lineup has recorded a dismal 90.4 offensive rating in the series, the worst of any lineup in the second round that has played at least 15 minutes together.
Throughout the playoffs, the Knicks have averaged a disappointing 104.8 offensive rating over nine games, with the team’s shooting woes on full display. Coach Tom Thibodeau needs to find answers if the Knicks hope to turn the series around.
“We can’t rely on our opponents’ bad shooting,” Thibodeau said after the game. “We need to find ways to create better scoring opportunities.”
Defensively, the Celtics have adopted a game plan that includes sagging off Josh Hart, forcing him to take shots instead of focusing entirely on Brunson. In previous games, Hart demonstrated a hot shooting streak, indicating that he can be a key factor if given the chance.
Hart’s struggles from beyond the arc have been well-documented. After starting strong, his confidence waned. He shot just 28.8% from deep in recent games following an impressive early stretch. “When I’m confident, I can hit those shots,” Hart explained.
In their series against the Pistons, Hart’s shooting from beyond the arc helped the Knicks break out of offensive slumps, but he’s faced a tougher task against Boston with Al Horford often sagging off him.
“It’s clear we need him to stay aggressive,” said teammate Brunson. “When he gets going, it opens things up for everyone.”
Despite the challenges, if Hart can regain his shooting touch, it could have a significant impact. Coach Thibodeau emphasized, “The key is to remain confident and let the shots fly.”
The Knicks must adapt quickly as they face a pivotal game in the series against the Celtics, aiming to improve their offensive efficiency and keep their championship hopes alive.
