Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns Sidelined Again with Thumb Injury
PHILADELPHIA — Karl-Anthony Towns, the New York Knicks‘ star center, will miss Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers due to a sprained right thumb, according to The Post’s Stefan Bondy. This marks the second time this season Towns has been sidelined, having previously missed three games with knee soreness.
The injury occurred during the first half of Monday’s home loss to the Detroit Pistons, though Towns managed to finish the game with 26 points and 12 rebounds in 43 minutes. The 7-footer is averaging 25.4 points and 13.9 rebounds per game this season, ranking second in the NBA in rebounds.
Joel Embiid, the 76ers’ MVP center, will also miss the game due to a sprained left foot, marking his sixth consecutive absence. Andre Drummond, another key Sixers player, is out with a toe injury. The Knicks have yet to announce their starting lineup, but Jericho Sims is expected to fill in for Towns, as he did during Towns’ previous absence.
Sims, however, was listed as questionable after missing Monday’s game with lower back spasms. The Knicks acquired Towns in a September trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves, and his absence adds to the team’s injury woes as they face a competitive Eastern Conference opponent.
The NBA injury report for Wednesday’s slate includes several notable absences, including Kyrie Irving, Zion Williamson, and Trae Young. Tyrese Maxey, Paul George, and Khris Middleton are among the players returning to action, while Draymond Green and Bam Adebayo remain questionable.
Fans can stay updated on the latest NBA injury news as the league continues to monitor player health throughout the season.
