Lake Effect Snow Warning Issued for Northeast Ohio and Surrounding Areas
The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for several counties in Northeast Ohio, effective from midnight Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday. The warning affects Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula Counties, while a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Cuyahoga County during the same period.
Heavy lake effect snow bands are expected to bring significant snowfall, with totals ranging from 6-18 inches in areas where the snow persists. The snow could fall at a rate of 1-2 inches per hour, leading to poor visibility as low as a quarter of a mile. This will make travel difficult to impossible, particularly impacting parts of Interstate 90, I-79, and I-86 in Northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania.
3News Meteorologist Anthony Copeland predicts that some areas, such as Lake and Ashtabula Counties, could see as much as 1-2 feet of snow by the end of the weekend. The snowy winter conditions are expected to last through the next seven days.
In addition to Ohio, lake effect snow warnings have also been issued for other regions, including Erie and Crawford Counties in Pennsylvania, highlighting the widespread impact of the winter weather system.
