Lakers Eye Quentin Grimes as Playoff Push Heats Up

Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles Lakers are intensifying their efforts for a guaranteed playoff spot, currently holding the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference with a 33-21 record and 28 games left in the regular season. With the integration of Luka Dončić into their offensive strategy after acquiring him from the Dallas Mavericks, the Lakers are looking more formidable as the season progresses.
General Manager Rob Pelinka is eyeing potential roster upgrades as they prepare for the future, particularly in the guard rotation. One name that has emerged as a notable target is Quentin Grimes, a shooting guard for the Philadelphia 76ers, who could become available through restricted free agency this summer.
Grimes, 24, has had a dynamic career trajectory. He gained recognition as a member of the New York Knicks during the 2023 Rising Stars Challenge, later being traded to the Detroit Pistons. In the 2024-25 season, he played alongside Dončić with the Mavericks before making his way to the 76ers.
In a total of 52 games with Dallas and Philadelphia this season, Grimes has averaged 10.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while hitting 38.6% of his three-point attempts. Since joining the 76ers, his performance has surged, contributing 15.8 points and 6.4 rebounds on a 46.8% shooting percentage in his initial five games.
The Lakers’ backcourt could benefit greatly from Grimes’ skill set, as he boasts an impressive 47.6% shooting rate from the corner three-point range. His developing on-ball scoring capabilities would complement both Dončić and four-time NBA champion LeBron James effectively.
In past seasons, the Lakers have found success by surrounding their stars with reliable shooting threats who can capitalize on open looks from deep. Grimes appears poised to fill these roles if he joins the team, making him a valuable asset for their playoff ambitions.
