Lamar Jackson Becomes Youngest Two Time Nfl Mvp, Cleveland Browns Shine At Nfl Honors

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has made NFL history once again by winning The Associated Press’ NFL Most Valuable Player award for a second time at the NFL Honors ceremony. At just 27 years old, Jackson becomes the youngest two-time MVP since the merger. He received 49 of 50 first-place votes to fall just short of another unanimous selection, with one vote going to Patrick Mahomes. Jackson joins a select group of players, including Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, who have won multiple MVP awards.

Despite coming up short in the AFC Championship Game, Jackson led the Ravens to a dominant regular season with a league-best 13-4 record. His career-best passing numbers and leadership on the field made him the standout choice for the award. Jackson went against the grain by excelling without a 1,000-yard rusher or receiver, the first MVP to do so, and recorded the most victories against winning teams in a single season since 2000.

In other NFL Honors news, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey became the first player from his team to win the AP’s Offensive Player of the Year award since Jerry Rice did so in 1993. McCaffrey led the league in rushing yards and total yards from scrimmage, scoring 21 touchdowns. He now sets his sights on winning the Super Bowl with the 49ers.

The Cleveland Browns had a successful night at the NFL Honors, winning a total of four awards, the most by any team. Defensive end Myles Garrett became the first Browns player to win the Defensive Player of the Year award after an outstanding season, while head coach Kevin Stefanski took home the Coach of the Year award despite facing numerous challenges throughout the season.

Joe Flacco, the Baltimore Ravens‘ quarterback, made an impressive comeback to win the Comeback Player of the Year award. Flacco threw for over 1,600 yards and 13 touchdowns after starting the season without a team. Steelers defensive tackle T.J. Watt received the Walter Payton Man of the Year award for his efforts in combating childhood hunger and supporting childhood literacy.

Special mention goes to the teams that swept the AP’s Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year awards, an achievement accomplished by the Houston Texans and the Cleveland Browns. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence and defensive end Jadaveon Clowney shone for the Texans, while Browns quarterback Jaylen Waddle and defensive end Kenny Golladay made significant impacts on their team.

The NFL Honors ceremony was a celebration of individual and team achievements throughout the 2022 season, showcasing the best players and coaches in the league. The results have set the stage for an exciting Super Bowl showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
