2024 Singapore Grand Prix Lando Norris

Lando Norris emerged victorious at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, marking his third career win and first from pole position. The McLaren driver led the race from start to finish, crossing the chequered flag ahead of Red Bull‘s Max Verstappen and his teammate Oscar Piastri.

“It was an amazing race,” Norris said. “There were a few close moments, but it was well-managed, I think. I could push, and we were flying the whole race.” His triumph not only reduced Verstappen’s championship lead to 52 points but also solidified McLaren’s position in the constructors’ championship.

The race, held at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, stood out for its lack of incidents, as it was the first in its history without the deployment of a safety car. Throughout the 62 uninterrupted laps, Norris extended his lead to over 20 seconds at one point, demonstrating clear dominance over his competitors.

Max Verstappen, the championship leader, was candid about the race conditions. “On a weekend we knew we were going to struggle, P2 is a good achievement. But now we need to improve, and that’s what we’ll do,” said the three-time world champion.

Oscar Piastri’s third place was notable, particularly given his start from fifth position. “It was a good race, a good recovery from qualifying,” Piastri commented. His finish extended McLaren’s lead over Red Bull in the constructors’ championship by 41 points.

The eventful race saw various strategic battles and pit stops. Lewis Hamilton, initially a frontrunner, faced difficulties with tire strategy. “I’m already struggling with this tyre,” he informed his team early in the race and eventually fell to sixth place.

Charles Leclerc made strategic gains to finish in the top five, overcoming a start from ninth on the grid. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz of Ferrari, alongside Fernando Alonso and Nico Hulkenberg, completed the top ten positions.

The Singapore Grand Prix continues to be a significant event in the Formula 1 calendar, reflecting both the strategic complexity and the high-stakes competition inherent in the sport.
