Last Day to Register to Vote for California’s November 5 General Election
Today, October 21, 2024, marks the final day for Californians to register to vote for the upcoming November 5 General Election. This deadline is crucial for all eligible voters who wish to participate in the election, as it is the last opportunity to register online or by mail before the election day.
All active registered voters in California will receive a vote-by-mail ballot starting the week of October 7, 2024. These ballots can be returned by mail, at designated drop-off locations, or at the county elections office. Ballot drop-off locations have been open since October 8, 2024.
For those who miss the registration deadline, there is an option for conditional voter registration. This process allows individuals to register and vote a provisional ballot in person at the county elections office or any vote center. Conditional voter registration will be available from October 22 to November 5, 2024.
Voters can check their registration status online at the My Voter Status portal to ensure they are registered and to confirm their mailing address and voting status. If there have been any changes in name or political affiliation, voters must re-register to vote.
Early in-person voting will begin in all Voter’s Choice Act counties on October 26, 2024. Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by the county elections office by November 12, 2024, to be counted.
