Lions Add Veteran Linebacker Zach Cunningham to Roster

Detroit, MI – The Detroit Lions have signed veteran linebacker Zach Cunningham as they prepare for this week’s OTA sessions. Cunningham, 30, is known for his previous tenure with the Houston Texans and brings eight years of NFL experience to the team.
Cunningham was initially a second-round pick from Vanderbilt in the 2017 NFL Draft. He quickly gained recognition for his tackling ability, leading the NFL in tackles during the 2020 season with 164 hits. Over three consecutive seasons, he recorded at least 100 tackles while playing as an off-ball linebacker.
After leaving the Texans in 2021, Cunningham had a short stint with the Tennessee Titans. He started 10 games for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023 before signing with the Lions this week. In 2024, he played seven games for the Denver Broncos and accumulated four tackles.
In Detroit, Cunningham is expected to compete for a backup role behind starting linebackers Jack Campbell and Alex Anzalone. His addition aims to strengthen the linebacker corps as the Lions finalize their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
Fans and analysts will be watching closely to see how Cunningham fits into the Lions’ defense this season.
