Detroit Lions Undrafted Free Agent Mason Miller

Detroit, MI — Following the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions wasted no time in signing undrafted free agents, particularly Mason Miller from North Dakota State University. Lions General Manager Brad Holmes has a history of identifying talent among UDFAs, and at least one has made the team’s roster each season since he took over.

Miller was one of the notable players linked to the Lions prior to the draft, but he ultimately went undrafted. That changed quickly, as he signed a contract with the Lions just minutes after the draft ended. His former offensive coordinator, Tyler Roehl, is currently the Lions’ tight ends coach, which could strengthen Miller’s chances of making the team.

Over his last three seasons at NDSU, Miller started all 41 games he played, showcasing durability and consistency. He was instrumental in one of the top FCS offenses throughout his college career, cementing his experience as a valuable asset for the Lions, who are looking to bolster their depth at tackle.

In addition to his 29 starts at right tackle, Miller had 12 starts at left guard during his final season, showing impressive versatility. Leading up to the draft, he showcased his skills by working out at multiple offensive line positions, which is a significant advantage for Detroit.

In his final season, Miller recorded impressive statistics, only allowing one sack and two tackles for loss in the regular season. His postseason performance included one additional sack allowed during a four-game stretch that concluded with an FCS national championship. According to Pro Football Focus, he graded out at 79.9 as a pass-blocker and 74.9 as a run-blocker.

Weighing in at 6-foot-7, Miller possesses the size expected of an NFL tackle, and his arm length adds to his potential. However, some concerns linger regarding his level of competition, as he faced Power Five opponents only twice in his college career.

Another concern for evaluators is Miller’s injury history. He broke his right fibula in 2022, which raised red flags during the draft process. Despite his injury history, Miller started every game in the following two seasons.

The Lions will provide fans their first look at Miller and the rest of their draft class during rookie minicamp scheduled for May 9-11. Organized team activities will follow on May 28-30 and June 3-5, as the team prepares for the upcoming Hall of Fame game on July 31.
