Lydia Ko Golf Us Women's Open

Erin Hills, Wisconsin – The US Women’s Open is set to kick off on Thursday, with 156 players, including top contenders like Lydia Ko and Nelly Korda, teeing off at the championship site known for its challenging layout.

As an early favorite, Lydia Ko, who has a strong track record at majors, hopes to transform her runner-up finishes into a championship victory. Last year’s AIG Women’s Open champion and Olympic gold medalist is currently in good form, having achieved five top 15 finishes in this event and a recent win at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in March.

“I 100% believe I can win,” Ko said, expressing confidence ahead of the tournament while acknowledging her past challenges. “I just need to focus and perform my best.”

Another notable player, Charley Hull, voiced her frustration with the pace of play on the tour, suggesting that penalties be imposed for slow play during the event. Hull, alongside Jin Young Ko and Jeeno Thitikul, will compete in the tournament, which starts at 7:45 a.m. EDT.

Other competitors such as recently-crowned Chevron Championship winner, Mao Saigo, and Yu-Yun Chen are also aiming for a solid performance, looking to capitalize on their strengths at Erin Hills.

The course hosted the men’s US Open in 2017, a tournament that saw Brooks Koepka emerge victorious. The conditions and layout, featuring wide fairways but severe roughs, pose a unique challenge to the women competing this week.

“You need to be precise with your approach shots,” Rory McIlroy commented on the course’s demands. The wind will play a significant role at Erin Hills, requiring players to navigate the elements skillfully.

Fans can follow the tournament live, with coverage available on Golf Channel and NBC Sports throughout the weekend.
