Magda Linette Advances to WTA 500 Quarterfinals in Strasbourg

Strasbourg, France – Magda Linette of Poland successfully advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 tournament after defeating Slovakia’s Rebecca Sramkova on May 20, 2025.
Linette grabbed a decisive victory with set scores of 6-4, 6-3 at the central court in Strasbourg. The match showcased Linette’s strong service game, where she secured six aces while committing four double faults.
Before this matchup, Linette faced Sramkova once before, losing in the second round of a tournament in Hua Hin last year. However, this time, the 33-year-old Polka displayed improved form and capitalized on her experience to secure the win.
“I felt very comfortable and focused on every point,” Linette said after the match. “Rebecca plays well, but I managed to stay ahead in crucial games, and that made all the difference.”
Linette maintained momentum throughout the match, breaking Sramkova’s serve twice in each set. The Polish player dominated the opening set by quickly establishing a 3-0 lead. Sramkova struggled to recover from the deficit.
As the match progressed, Linette continued to demonstrate her prowess on clay, moving steadily towards her goal of preparing for the upcoming French Open. In her previous match earlier in the tournament, she defeated Barbora Krejcikova, showcasing her readiness for higher stakes.
With this victory, Linette is set to face either Elena Rybakina or Xinyu Wang in the upcoming quarterfinals, pushing her one step closer to achieving her ambitions on the WTA tour.
