Maggie Mac Neil from London, Ontario, struggled to defend her title in the women’s 100-meter butterfly event at the Paris Olympics, finishing in fifth place. She clocked in at 56.44 seconds, which just wasn’t enough to land her on the podium.

The gold medal was claimed by Torri Huske, who edged out her teammate Gretchen Walsh in a thrilling race. Huske finished with a time of 55.59 seconds, a solid performance that beat Walsh’s time of 55.63 seconds. Despite a strategy that had worked for Mac Neil in the past, she couldn’t keep pace this time.

After racing out fast, Mac Neil found herself unable to maintain the speed during the final half of the race. She explained, “I pushed too hard in the first half and paid the price in the second.” This was a tough moment for Mac Neil, who had previously won Olympic gold.

The bronze went to China’s Zhang Yufei, who completed the event in 56.21 seconds. Zhang’s participation raised eyebrows as she was one of many swimmers from her country who tested positive for banned substances before the Tokyo Olympics.

Meanwhile, world record holder Leon Marchand made headlines by winning the gold in the men’s 400 meters individual medley, breaking an Olympic record with a time of 4:02.95. The 22-year-old swimmer showcased his incredible talent at his home Olympics, leaving tje competition far behind.

The Canadian team also had Mary-Sophie Harvey qualifying for the women’s 200-meter freestyle final, set for Monday. She posted a time of 1:56.37 in the semifinals, securing a place in the finals and showcasing her promising skill in the pool.

As the Olympics continue, other notable results included Summer McIntosh earning a silver medal in the women’s 400 meters freestyle, while the Canadian team finished fourth in the women’s 4×100 meter freestyle relay.
