Magnitude 4.7 Earthquake Strikes Near Ackerly, Texas

Ackerly, Texas — A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck Friday afternoon, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quake occurred approximately 15 miles southwest of Ackerly, about 60 miles northwest of Midland and 320 miles west of Dallas.
The earthquake hit at a depth of about 1 mile at 1:45 p.m. local time. So far, there have been no reports of injuries or significant damage caused by the quake.
This seismic event follows a series of smaller earthquakes that have affected the Texas-New Mexico border over the past few weeks. The USGS has recorded several tremors in the region, with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 4.6.
Regions in New Mexico, including Carlsbad, Alamogordo, and Roswell, as well as parts of West Texas like El Paso, have also experienced increased seismic activity recently. The pattern has raised concerns among residents and local authorities.
While the USGS does not currently predict any additional significant earthquakes in the immediate future, they advise residents to remain prepared and informed about seismic safety measures.
