Majority Councillor Shkurtaj Joins Opposition in Political Shuffle

SEVERE, Italy – In a significant political shift, Giulio Shkurtaj has left the majority group, Uniti per Serravalle, to join the opposition party Attiva. Shkurtaj’s decision, announced on April 19, 2025, follows months of discontent regarding his role within the administration.
Shkurtaj, elected in 2022 with 65 votes, expressed that his lack of delegated responsibilities in comparison to his peers led to a profound sense of disconnect. “The reasons that prompted my decision are many, developed over the past few months. In particular, trust in me from the majority has been lacking,” Shkurtaj stated. “Despite proposing initiatives, I no longer felt considered, and due to a lack of a clear future vision from this administration, I chose to embark on this new path.”
In his announcement, Shkurtaj also took a moment to thank his supporters, promising to bring his commitment to his new role within Attiva. “I want to thank the voters who allowed me to serve on this council. I am confident they will understand my choice. I will continue to fulfill my duties as an administrator within the new Attiva council group, to contribute to building something new and effective for our Municipality,” he added.
Shkurtaj’s departure marks the third exit from the Uniti per Serravalle party, contrasting with Andrea Basetti’s recent move from the left-wing opposition to the majority. In response to Shkurtaj’s departure, Mayor Piero Lunardi expressed regret that he had not been aware of Shkurtaj’s discontent. “I regret not having understood his concerns, but I believe it is important to discuss issues when they arise,” Lunardi commented. When asked about the stability of his majority, Lunardi confidently affirmed its strength.
