Cape Town Magistrate's Court

In Cape Town, the former Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Malusi Booi, has been granted bail set at R250,000 by the Cape Town Magistrate's Court. This decision relates to a case involving Booi and nine others, all facing charges of fraud, corruption, and money laundering.

The court proceedings highlighted allegations against Booi and his co-accused concerning questionable tenders exceeding R1 billion. It is reported that these tenders were linked to various housing projects in the city. Magistrate Alida Theart presided over the case and approved varying bail amounts for the accused. Among Booi’s co-accused, Suraya Manual received a R150,000 bail, while Abdul-Kader Davids, Mohammed Amod, Randall Mullins, and Brenda Mullins, like Booi, were also granted R250,000 bail.

Three other accused, Thuli Imgibi, Nomvuyo Mnyaka, and Lorna Ndoda, along with Siphokazi September, received lower bail amounts set at R25,000 each. The court imposed strict conditions on the accused, including restrictions on contacting witnesses or leaving their home province without notifying the investigating officer. Specific travel restrictions were placed on Mnyaka, barring her from leaving South Africa without providing proof of necessity for work-related travel.

Booi and his co-accused face serious charges, which include facilitation of money laundering. The case also involves companies accused of unlawful dealings, with Glomix, owned by Nicole Johnson, being one of the companies mentioned in the investigation. The upcoming court sessions are expected to include Johnson and her husband, Ralph Stanfield, as new defendants joining the accused list.

The proceedings have drawn public attention, not only because of the substantial amounts involved but also due to the allegations being interconnected with a separate case involving the murder of Wendy Kloppers, a city official, outside a housing project in construction.
