Liverpool Fc Premier League Trophy Parade Incident

LIVERPOOL, England — A man has been detained following an incident where a car collided with pedestrians during Liverpool FC’s Premier League trophy parade on Monday evening.

Merseyside Police reported the collision occurred on Water Street, near the city’s town hall, shortly after 6 p.m. local time. Emergency services quickly responded to the scene to aid those injured.

A police statement indicated, “We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre. The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained. Emergency services are currently on the scene.”

According to the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS), they are also responding to the incident. An NWAS spokesperson noted, “We are currently assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services. Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible.”

The parade, intended to celebrate Liverpool’s first Premier League title since the 2019-2020 season, began at 2:30 p.m. with thousands of fans lining the streets. However, the festivities turned chaotic when reports emerged of the vehicle striking several pedestrians.

Images from the scene show police cordons set up around the area, as individuals were treated for injuries by emergency personnel. Footage revealed at least three people being transported away on stretchers.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper are reportedly being kept informed about the developments of the incident, according to PA news agency.

As police continue to respond to the scene, more updates are expected to follow as the investigation develops.
