Manchester, England – Manchester City announced plans to honor Kevin De Bruyne with a statue outside the Etihad Stadium following his final appearance for the club during a match on May 20. De Bruyne, a Belgian midfielder, joined City in 2015 and became an essential figure in the team’s rise to prominence.

During his time with City, De Bruyne won a total of six league titles, two FA Cups, five EFL Cups, and played a vital role in completing a historic treble in 2023. He is not only celebrated within the club but is also regarded as one of the Premier League’s greatest players. De Bruyne matched Thierry Henry‘s assist record during the 2019–20 season, solidifying his legacy as a premier playmaker.

His last home game was an emotional event, marked by a 3-1 victory for City against their opponents. Fans filled the stadium, chanting De Bruyne’s name throughout the match. “It means I will always be part of this club,” De Bruyne told Matchday Live presenter Natalie Pike, expressing his gratitude after being presented with a framed shirt and a lifelong season ticket.

Prior to the game, a ceremony at the City Football Academy unveiled a mosaic celebrating De Bruyne’s contributions. The statue of the 33-year-old will join those of other City legends like Vincent Kompany, David Silva, and Sergio Agüero outside the stadium.

De Bruyne, who has tallied 108 goals and 177 assists in 421 matches for City, plans to continue playing as he prepares for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2026. Reports suggest that he has received interest from Serie A clubs, including Napoli, as well as offers from Major League Soccer teams.
