Marabá City Government Accessibility

MARABÁ, Brazil – The Municipal City Hall of Marabá has committed to ensuring equal access to its digital services for all citizens. In line with this commitment, the local government has implemented several measures aimed at improving accessibility on its website.

The improvements are in accordance with the guidelines set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), as detailed in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Furthermore, the city aims to comply with Decree 5.296, published in December 2004, which mandates accessibility for public administration websites to serve individuals with special needs.

To ensure compliance, the municipal portal underwent automatic validation tests and was evaluated across multiple web browsers. Additionally, accessibility checks were conducted using the DOSVOX Internet access utility, which is designed specifically for visually impaired users. Mayor João Alves stated, “Our goal is to remove barriers and ensure that all citizens, regardless of their abilities, can engage with municipal services effectively.”

In an effort to enhance user experience, the site also incorporates necessary cookies that improve functionality without collecting personal data. The cookies used on the website facilitate quicker access to pages in future visits and provide general browsing data to the city’s technical team for ongoing improvements.

Essential cookies include session and performance cookies that are automatically generated to ensure the proper functioning of the site. These cookies are crucial for site operations, ensuring that users can navigate effectively and access vital information without disruption.

The portal also employs third-party cookies, which support features developed by external services like Google Analytics and YouTube. These cookies, such as YSC and _ga, track general interaction data without identifying individual users.

The city emphasizes the importance of privacy and seeks to inform users about how data is handled. The policies surrounding cookie usage and privacy are clearly outlined on the municipal website, allowing users to make informed decisions about their data preferences.

“Our efforts in digital inclusion reflect our dedication to serve every citizen with respect and accessibility in mind,” Mayor Alves added, highlighting the importance of transparency and communication in the city’s outreach efforts.

As a result of these initiatives, Marabá positions itself as a leader in digital accessibility, setting an example for other municipalities in Brazil. The government encourages citizens to provide feedback on their experiences with the website to further enhance its accessibility features.
