MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Marquette University is mourning the loss of John Koser, a senior double majoring in finance and marketing in the College of Business Administration, who passed away in his off-campus apartment on March 14, 2025. He was set to graduate in May.

John Koser was remembered as an engaged member of the Marquette community, actively participating in the Investment Club and working as a Sodexo student employee at the Union Sports Annex. His friends and faculty recall him as a bright student whose presence will be dearly missed.

In a community message, Marquette President Dr. Kimo Ah Yun expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Koser, stating, “We grieve with the student’s family and friends as well as fellow faculty, staff, and students here on campus who were touched by this student during their time in our community.”

The community has come together to support Koser’s family, emphasizing the importance of prayers and grief resources. “Counseling services and pastoral support are available for all faculty, staff, and students,” Dr. Ah Yun stressed. Support sessions will be provided, including quiet spaces for reflection and processing grief.

The university will hold a Mass in Koser’s name next week, with further details to be announced. Funeral arrangements will also be shared if they become available. “Such a loss is difficult to comprehend, and I know that the coming days will be trying for the family. I hope our love and support will help ease their pain,” Dr. Ah Yun added.

In a statement to the community, he asked for understanding during this tender time and encouraged everyone to check in with their classmates, friends, and family members as they navigate their collective grief. “Grief affects each of us differently. The connections and bonds we share are important in these difficult times,” he said.
