Marvel’s New Spider-Man Series Breaks Tradition with Fresh Take
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Marvel Studios‘ highly anticipated animated series, *Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man*, premieres on Disney+ this Wednesday, January 29, marking the first Spider-Man cartoon under the Marvel Studios banner. The show promises a fresh take on the iconic web-slinger, breaking away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to explore new creative directions.
The series introduces a teenage Peter Parker, voiced by Hudson Thames, who encounters familiar characters like Nico Minoru and Norman Osborn, played by Colman Domingo. Osborn, traditionally known as the villainous Green Goblin, takes on a mentor role in this iteration. Other classic Marvel characters, including Daredevil, Scorpion, and Doc Ock, will also appear in reimagined forms throughout the first season.
Head writer Jeff Trammell emphasized the team’s goal to deliver something distinct. “We wanted to bring a lot of things to the table that earlier Spidey shows may not have been able to do,” Trammell said in a behind-the-scenes video released earlier this week. The show’s cel-shaded 3D animation style aims to evoke the classic artwork of Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr., creating a visual experience that feels like a “comic book come to life.”
Adding to the show’s unique identity is its theme song, “Neighbor Like Me,” a collaboration by The Math Club, Relaye, and Melo Makes Music. The track blends modern hip-hop with nostalgic elements from the 1960s Spider-Man theme, offering a fresh yet familiar sound. The return of a full-length theme song is a notable departure from recent Marvel cartoons, which have favored brief title cards over traditional themes.
*Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man* premieres with its first two episodes on January 29. Fans can expect a series that honors the character’s legacy while pushing creative boundaries.
